Insights, reflections and creative imaginings for our awakening world

Tits and ass, cocks and bosoms, fannies and phalluses, fetishes and obsessions

Tits are everywhere. So are asses. But somehow in our still double standard western society, cocks are not as prevalent.  Please forgive my vulgarity. My blog today is two-part, first, as an experiment to see how many bloggers will read it simply because of the title, possibly disappointed if they have gotten this far with still no descriptions of hot, manic sex. And secondly, to comment on our absolute obsession with coitus and all that surrounds it.

As I am sure many of you are well aware, when doing an image search on Google, on nearly any topic, amazingly, there will appear an array of pictures of mainly women (though there are plenty of men too) in various states of undress, revealing clothing, and sexually welcoming poses. Go to Youtube and look at what millions of viewers see during the course of a day, and the overwhelming majority will contain images, from slightly artistic to extremely vulgar, of women and men in various stages of making love, from foreplay to intercourse. Interestingly, all the music videos directed at young viewers will stop short from showing actual intercourse between the two lovers. There seems to still be some unwritten law somewhere out in the entertainment world’s twisted sense of what is acceptable, that they can show everything; tits, ass, cocks even, people gyrating and humping like dogs, and yet as long as there is a strip of material covering the anatomical parts which everybody most would like to see, then ‘everybody’ can watch it, from children to grandparents. Or something like that, one can only guess how their minds function.

Obviously Western culture is completely obsessed with sex, nudity and all that accompanies it. Of course it is a fascinating subject, the human body being one of the most beautifully made creations on Earth. Artists throughout time have known this, and portrayed the human form in the most sublimely beautiful ways. Examples of art which honor the human body are vast, perhaps the topic of another day’s blog. The worship of the nude body and of sexuality is one of the oldest stories in our world. Every major cultural epoch has had its form of worshipping the sexual act, at least up until Christianity was invented, when those old church fathers decided that sexuality was evil and women’s bodies were the carriers of such. From that time forward, we in the western world have been forced underground with our sexual desires and lust, and as we can see, the result became extraordinarily twisted and strange. In the 21st century, we have a kind of blatant love-hate relationship with sex and the body. Even the more sophisticated among us still have fetishes and not altogether healthy attitudes toward sex and possibly even their own sexuality. We have to admit, the vast majority of humans walking around in the western world spend an inordinate amount of time with sex, whether in fantasy or reality, whether in a healthy or destructive way. In a very real way, sex drives our modern world, along with a couple of other major topics, such as war and greed.

As anyone who has ever had an orgasm knows, there are strong forces behind our obsession. To go to the place of sublime pleasure in the body, even for that minute or hour or whatever it is, is a human experience unmatched by any other, in my opinion. Yes, there are those who meditate and pray, who claim that the ecstasy they experience when they feel one with their god is incomparable even to sexual ecstasy. I concede that may well be true. But for the rest of us ordinary humans, the moment of release in orgasm is the closest we come to that feeling of utter joy. Orgasm is such a magical, mystical experience. No matter how many well chosen words one uses, it is essentially impossible to describe. It simply has to be experienced to be known and understood.

From a purely personal point of view, I wish that all people who are old enough to understand and have the experience of sexual ecstasy, could have it, and often. I honestly believe it would help the world in a thousand ways if the majority of us were making love with each other, instead of using, abusing, manipulating, and hurting each other through sexuality. It is the most powerful force within us, along with love and hate, and if we could learn to use it for the good, instead of the harmful, humanity would undoubtedly take a giant leap forward in our evolution.

In order to make beautiful, healthy love and experience loving, wonderful sexuality, people have to be healthy, in body, soul and spirit. This is the crux of the whole issue, and why it is so difficult. We are living in unhealthy and debauched times, much like during the last part of the Roman empire. Our western society is sick, and our twisted obsessions with sex and the body is a symptom of this sickness. How can we turn it around, become healthy, learn to use sex for the furthering of love and not hate? To find again the sacredness of the sexual act and the human body? To transcend our lower, animal natures and instead connect with the spiritual part of us through sexual love is the remedy.

We humans are complicated creatures. We operate on so many levels simultaneously, and usually quite unconsciously. I agree with those who say that what is needed is to become more aware, more awake to what is really going on inside of us. The people acting out crude, vulgar sexuality on Youtube (as well as in their own lives) are only aware of a particular aspect of their natures, or at least seem to be mainly interested in that part of themselves. I encourage them to raise up their awareness of themselves a few notches, and for them to realize that they can be even more sexual, and certainly more beautiful, if they take it all to a higher level, where love is the overriding emotion instead of simple animal lust. Oh but it is true, I long for the day when humans will see how perfect and beautiful they really are, no matter what size, shape, age or status they have. Imagine how different the world would be if we could all get to a place of appreciation of each other instead of harsh judgement!

The Greeks knew about this. So did the Renaissance artists. In our times, the concept of Beauty has somehow gotten lost. People are much more interested in what is ugly, weird and horrible. Monsters and demons are ruling people’s tastes and emotional lives, at least for a lot of people, all variations of our collective vision of hell. Hell has its place in the human psyche, true. And yet. If Dante’s version of hell and heaven are accurate, then Hell is not a place where the human being really wants to willingly dwell, is it? If one is free in one’s soul, wouldn’t one rather choose to make love with an angelic being, than a demon? I know I would.

Ps. Dear Readers, each time I post a new blog, I hope that some of you will comment. Yet very few do. I encourage you to write a few words, tell me your thoughts on these ponderings of mine! I know it takes extra time, that thing we can waste so much of getting caught up in each others writings. But I would very much appreciate getting feedback, good, bad or ugly, just so I know whether I should continue writing or maybe just chuck it altogether. Thanks in advance if you care to comment here or in future posts.

  1. “I honestly believe it would help the world in a thousand ways if the majority of us were making love with each other, instead of using, abusing, manipulating, and hurting each other through sexuality.”

Most of the worst problems in the world come from kids being screwed up through abuse and growing up as rather bad people. Making love doesn’t stop an abusive step father from beating his kids. It can be actively counterproductive, since if those two people are making love the woman will not want to stop him because then he might leave. The truer their love the less she’ll want to stop it.

Love is awesome, love conquers all and makes everything better, that vague hippie moral is not helpful for the real world. There’s also the problem that a lot of the fights we have we have are with people who we can’t sleep with. ‘love conquers all, orgasms are magical’ really isn’t a great way to deal with your mother being really passive aggressive and making you feel crappy or with your same sex female friend telling people your secrets behind your back.

“I encourage them to raise up their awareness of themselves a few notches, and for them to realize that they can be even more sexual, and certainly more beautiful, if they take it all to a higher level, where love is the overriding emotion instead of simple animal lust.”

Lust is not a worse emotion than love. Love covers up all sins. At least with lust it only covers up the sins a couple times, then you feel free to find a new person to lust with. Our modern culture has corrupted love as badly as it’s corrupted lust.

“Oh but it is true, I long for the day when humans will see how perfect and beautiful they really are, no matter what size, shape, age or status they have. Imagine how different the world would be if we could all get to a place of appreciation of each other instead of harsh judgement!”

More beautiful people are more fertile and obesity inhibits fertility and child bearing. People will always judge because there’s much objective ground behind judging. Also, lots of women find it fun judging.

What if the demon is wearing a trench coat?

And the angel looks kinda wimpy?

  2. Kudos for tackling this topic! What is repressed often becomes twisted (i.e. the sex scandal in the Catholic church). In the US, the body (particularly to female body, but males as well) have become over sexualized to sell products and make people rich. Even with all this skin everywhere you look, there is a drought of depictions of healthy bodies and sexuality. Maybe in the past it used to be religious, societal taboos that drove the repression but now I wonder if its money/greed. Keep people out of touch with healthy sexual expression and experience, and meet their craving with a product which gives a quick “buzz” but doesn’t solve the fundamental need. Sort of like fast food. Something to think about…

    • I appreciate your comment! Thanks for getting my point, that what is repressed becomes twisted. You said it so succinctly, something which obviously doesn\t come easily to me! Thanks for reading and following my blog, SB

  4. Leigh…you are right when you note that, in the 21st century, sex has become basically pornographic, debased of all its good in many lives. Sexuality is a beautiful thing and I appreciate it immensely. Yet, all around me, I see it flaunted and misused. Why do the marketers do this? I believe it is because it works…many people are so sexually repressed that this lust is all they can manage. And if people have unhealthy sex lives, then voyeurism is the best they can do.

I love your blog, Leigh…it is heartfelt and honest. Keep it up.

  5. I think the first explanation is that cocks are not attractive to the heterosexual men who run the porn factories. Personally, I think men are hideous, but that perception has to do with my own hetero-limitations. Sex has been misused since time immemorial because the feelings frighten people and frightened people repress everything from sex to alcohol to tobacco to any other potential pleasure you can name. Sexual repression is the worst of the lot because it has twisted more personalities and led to greater harm than any other form of repression with the possible exception of political repression.

    • I quite agree, Robert! Sex is such a long discussion that one could easily spend the rest of their lives thinking and talking about it…. fortunately for you, you are able to spend more time engaging in it than simply waxing about it!
